WVU Medicine Surgical Oncology provides surgical care and interdisciplinary treatment for patients with solid organ and soft tissue malignancies. The faculty of the surgical oncology division perform more than 850 surgical procedures each year.
Our faculty have extensive clinical experience in treating breast, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal tract tumors (esophagus, stomach, small bowel), as well as colon and rectal cancers. We also offer a comprehensive approach to hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) disorders of the liver, pancreas, bile ducts, and gallbladder.
Surgical treatment of other malignancies such as melanoma and sarcoma are treated in combination with other surgical disciplines such as plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery when necessary as part of the commitment to the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer. Partnerships in care exist not only in the surgical disciplines but also with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology in the care of cancer patients. This approach is vital to providing the optimal care to our patients.
Our surgical oncologist works as part of the team of physicians, nurses and pharmacists at the Cancer Institute’s Mary Babb Randolph Cancer center, an accredited Commission on Cancer center. As such, we are dedicated to adhering to the standard of care as delineated by the American College of Surgeons.
Faculty members within the division have presented nationally at the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Society of Surgery for the Alimentary Tract, the Association of Veteran’s Administration Surgeons, the American Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery Association, and the American College of Surgeons.
